Meet The Duplettes

An Acoustic Duo with a story

“If things had gone smoothly Anna would probably be living with a travelling circus and I’d be teaching music in the North of England.”

We first met at a music studio our friends ran in Yorkshire. My dad had taught Anna during her degree course so he’d warned me about what a talent she was. When I was doing my own degree Anna came in and sang on a cover of “Ain’t No Sunshine” I was recording.

We were in a tiny room that could barely fit the mic stand that I had set up for Anna behind me meaning she was literally singing over my shoulder. She smashed it on the first take but I got her to do 3 or 4 more and lots of harmonies because I just wanted her to keep singing.

Not long after that Anna ran off to Europe with a travelling circus and I opened my own studio. We talked a lot while she was away and she was frustrated with not signing as much as she wanted too. An important thing to know about Anna is that she never had any singing lessons or formal training (the music degree focused more on music history and some theory).

Anna never stops singing, ever. Just little lines and riffs while she’s Going about her day.

Back from the Circus

When Anna finally came back to the UK I suggested that we start playing some gigs together. Our first shows were in wine bars and at a few weddings around Yorkshire and Cheshire because we both lived in the north at that point. Someone filmed us playing “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” at our 2nd ever gig which became our most popular video on Youtube with about 90,000 views.

Anna then moved to Northamptonshire which is where she’s originally from while I got the opportunity to move to London. We decided to focus on getting some shows in London so we organised a little video & photo shoot at Anna’s house which we filmed in her front room. We contacted a few agents and venues in London and the first gig we got was at Wembley Stadium for one of the England football matches.

London Calling

The call for Wembley came the night before the show because someone had pulled out of the gig. I hadn’t moved to London yet so I set off driving down the M1 from Yorkshire at 5:30am and picked Anna up along the way. The show at 11am after meeting World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst in the lift on the way in.

We’ve played at Wembley around 30 times for a range of occasions including the FA Cup Final, England Rugby matches and the NFL. Since then we’ve also played shows at The O2 Arena, Ascot Racecourse, Silverstone and some of the biggest hotels, museums and galleries in central London.

Moments to Remember

The right music can transform an important moment into something truly special and that’s what we aim to do.

When we started the acoustic duo we were clear that we wanted to provide our clients with an opportunity to experience their favourite songs as they’d never heard them before. To create a truly memorable moment that will stay with them for a long time. We’ve always focused on simply providing the perfect performance for the occasion.

Every song is adapted and moulded to suit the mood and vibe of each event and audience. Sometimes that’s jazzy versions of 60’s soul songs at a classy drinks reception and other times it’s getting people up and dancing along to 80’s pop hits.

If you care enough to bring your favourite people together for a special occasion, then you deserve a musical experience that will make it unforgettable.
